Pancreatic elastase is a digestive enzyme produced by the pancreas. It helps break down tough proteins, such as those found in meat and connective tissue, into smaller pieces that the body can absorb.

Because pancreatic elastase stays stable as it passes through the gut, it can also be measured in stool. This makes it a useful marker of pancreatic function, helping to assess how well the pancreas is working.
