Microbiome Explorer assesses more than 28,000 species – bacteria, archaea, fungi and protists – using shotgun metagenomic sequencing against a curated gut microbiome reference catalogue, with a detection threshold of 0.01% relative abundance.
Coverage and resolution matter because a report can only ever show what the method was built to find. A report with few detections can mean a genuinely sparse community, or a method that was not looking very widely.
