A gut microbiome test looks at the community of microorganisms living in your gut. Microba's Microbiome Explorer range uses shotgun metagenomic sequencing to identify which species are present and in what proportion, how diverse the community is, and what that community has the potential to produce – for example short-chain fatty acids.

Depending on the test, it can also include markers of the gut environment. The result is a detailed picture of your gut ecosystem, designed to be read alongside your health history by a qualified practitioner. It is a source of insight for clinical decision-making, not a diagnosis.
